The Maintenance Department supports production by maintaining existing equipment, custom building new equipment, and procuring supplies. The company continually supports and funds extensive outside training of the staff. The department is fully equipped with the necessary equipment to perform its tasks. A spare parts inventory is maintained to assure the shortest practical downtime when equipment fails.
Maintenance workers must possess a wide range of skills to deal with the daily problems encountered in an electroplating job shop. These include welding of metals and plastics, pipe fitting, electrical repairs, and repairing mechanical systems. The environment in the plating shop often makes these tasks more challenging, and safety is a prime consideration since many of these tasks contain uncertainties.
